Your Injectable Fillers action
The basic principle is the injection of a fluid in the thickness of the skin or the subcutaneous space to create a volume of filling or augmentation.
There are two major categories of products:
- Biodegradable products: they will reduce gradually and completely
- Collagen (* Zyderm, Zyplast * * Résoplast ...): animal origin - allergy risks justifying two successive skin tests prior to the injections – life span of a few months.
- Hyaluronic acid (Restylane *, Perlane *, Juvederm * Hyaluderm * Hylaform * Rofilan * Reviderm * TEOSYAL * ...) one of the most used products - synthetic, no prior testing - life of a few months (deemed to be a little longer than for collagen)
- Polylactic acid (New-Fill *): synthetic, no test, life span of a few months.
- Non-biodegradable products: persistent in situ for several years or even indefinitely
- Silicone: prohibited in injectable form since 1997 because of sometimes devastating side effects.
- Acrylic hydrogel (Dermalive *) and polymethyl methacrylate (Artecoll *): non-biodegradable synthetic particles, granulomas deemed high risk.
- Polyacrylamide - (Aquamid * BioAlcamid * Outline *): latest on the market - supposed to last for years and provide little or no granuloma.
If a large volume-corrected (cheekbones, chin...), or in the patient (s) allergy, it should discuss with your surgeon the advantage of a feedback autologous fat: lipo-filling or lipostructure.
Preparation for the Injectable Fillers procedureNo special preparation is required.
The day of injection, you do not need to be fasting. For women, they should come without makeup or to remove it before the injections.

Anesthesia
Usually injections are practiced without anesthesia.
However, yet it is a little more painful for some products, for some sensitive patient (s), or in some difficult areas (lips and mouth circumference), provision may be one of two methods:
- Emla Cream *: apply a thick layer on the areas to treat at least one hour before the injection; it reduces painful sensations in the area.
- Real local anesthesia obtained by injecting an anesthetic at the beginning of the session itself ensures total insensitivity. The initial consultation is very important. Your surgeon will need a complete medical history. This will include information about any medical conditions, drug allergies, previous operations and medication you are taking, if any. She will examine your face. Each patient is different, so your surgeon will discuss with you the best option after examining you.

The suites can possibly be marked by edema (swelling), skin redness, skin sensitivity, itching, pale skin, hyperpigmentation, or small spot bruising (bruises). These reactions disappear within one to three days.
Note that the first few days, there may be some temporary irregularities due to the inhomogeneous distribution of edema, or an aspect of overcorrection (raised) that will gradually disappear.
Results of Injectable Fillers
A delay of a few days is necessary to appreciate the final result. This is the time required for the product to be well integrated, the swelling has disappeared and that the tissues have regained their flexibility.
Usually treated disgraces are markedly attenuated by the injections, but wont always disappear completely. Indeed, some locations are particularly difficult to treat and there are deep and old wrinkles that can never be completely erased.
The purpose of these injections is to make an improvement and not to achieve perfection. If your wishes are realistic, the result should give you great satisfaction.
The duration of action of hyaluronic acid is from 6 to 9 months. The correction is only temporary and the treatment should be repeated every few months to maintain the result.
Injectable Fillers risks and possible complications
Any medical procedure however small it may be has a number of uncertainties and risks.
By choosing a qualified practitioner specifically trained in these injection techniques and knowing choose the product best suited to your case, you limit these risks without deleting them completely, especially since the majority of potential problems are inherent to the product itself and that it can induce reactions unpredictably:
- Allergic reactions: they are essentially the preserve collagen and should be avoided by pre-testing.
- Post-injections local reactions: swelling, redness, pallor, irregularities, tenderness, itching, bruising. These reactions however, are only temporary.
- Labial herpes outbreak: in predisposed individuals.
- Acute or chronic inflammatory reaction: possible after secondary injection in an area that has already been injected with other products, particularly non-absorbable.
- Granulomas: These small indurated nodules, more or less sensitive, perceptible to the touch, sometimes visible and unsightly. They are exceptional with hyaluronic acids.
- Rare complications: have been few cases of persistent redness described several weeks, abscesses or skin necrosis, located on a site of injection.
Finally, you should not dramatize things by overestimating the risks, but just be aware that a filler injection, even seemingly simple since nonsurgical, still has a small share of hazards.
